Chicken sausages: check the casing too
A chicken sausage name identifies the meat being advertised, not every ingredient. Read the full label and check the casing as well as the filling, flavourings and certification.
What to ask
- What is the casing made from? If it is animal-derived, which animal and source?
- Does current halal certification cover this exact product and production?
- Does the filling or seasoning include ingredients you need to check, such as wine or animal-derived ingredients?
- For loose or store-made sausages, how are utensils, preparation and storage separated?
A missing casing source leaves a question to resolve; it does not prove pork. Likewise, “chicken” or “no pork” alone does not establish halal certification.
